Autumn Term 2024
Welcome to Class 3
We are all very excited about our first term together in Class 3. We have an exciting and ambitious learning journey planned for Autumn.
In Maths we will focus on Place Value and the four operations – this learning is the bedrock of all Maths understanding and will provide a secure footing for our future learning.
Our first English text is called ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ which is a myth narrative set in the Viking era. The children will be learning the literary techniques needed to produce their own myth narrative and an information report.
Our English text has been chosen to tie in with our first History topic – ‘How the Vikings shaped modern day Britain’. Through investigation, research, drama and discussion, we will find out why and when the Vikings raided Britain, where they came from and how they interacted with the Anglo-Saxon people already settled in Britain. We will end this learning journey with a trip to Tatton Hall in December to take part in an interactive Viking workshop to celebrate everything we have learnt.
Art will also be connected to our History topic, and we will be developing our sketching and drawing skills through Viking art.
Our first Science topic is ‘States of Matter’ where we will be experimenting and investigating materials and their properties.
In RE, we will be looking in depth at The Bible – its history and how it can impact on the lives of Christians today.
This term, PE will be on a Tuesday. The children will need to attend school in their PE kit every Tuesday. Class 3 will also have Forest School every Friday. Spellings will be given to the class on a Monday morning and tested on a Friday. I will be giving the children techniques and guidance of how best to learn these weekly words in preparation for the test. Reading for pleasure is an important focus for us and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Support from home to encourage this vital life skill will be greatly appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact me through Dojo if you have any questions and worries about your child’s learning.
